Abalone, locate (sea
snail), fish, crabs and mussels are among the resources
present in Punta Churra, a 77-hectare management area.
I am the president of the Caleta Palito Association
of Divers, which manages this area. I began extracting,
processing and selling seafood products 17 years ago,
first as a diver's assistant, and then I began diving
myself until I acquired my own vessel. Gradually I learned
that the only way to make a profit from seafood products
is by adding value.
So, when I found out that the Emerge Programme was looking
for entrepreneurs, I approached them and presented my
business and my goals. Since I joined the Programme
I feel that my business has developed more rapidly,
is more efficient and is better at managing clients.
My family is proud that I have participated in the Programme
and studied at university. After a great deal of effort,
but I have reached my goal.
Now I have the tools to make my business thrive and
take it into the future. I feel better prepared because
you start a business with your heart, but without the
knowledge you need. Before, I only had the desire and
the products, and now I have the knowledge to manage
and develop my business with a view towards being able
to export.
