Los Bronces Development Project

More than 2,500 people were hired in 2008 to work on the Los Bronces Development Project, which began construction in December 2007.

In 2008, project engineering reached 55% completion and investment commitments added up to US$962 million. At the same time, we began earth movement, reaching 64% completion, finished the first concrete and rebar work on the new grinding plant. Construction also began on a four-kilometer tunnel that will connect the mine with the new grinding plant in the Confluencia area.

Los Bronces Development Project involves an investment between US$ 2.2 billion and US$ 2.5 billion, to build new grinding, mineral transport and concentration facilities which will increase the Division's production capacity to an average of 400,000 tons of fine copper annually, up from 230,000 tons currently.
