The Anglo American Group
began operating in Chile in 1980 when it acquired 40%
of Empresa Minera de Mantos Blancos S.A., where it developed
the deposit of the same name in Region II. In 1984 the
company became the majority shareholder of Mantos Blancos.
In the 1988 - 1992 period the Company exercised its purchase
option on the Mantoverde deposit, located in Region III,
making it part of the Empresa Minera de Mantos Blancos
S.A.
In 1996 Anglo American acquired a 44% interest in Compañía
Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi, with a deposit in Region
I.
In 2000 the Company’s ownership of Empresa Minera de Mantos
Blancos S.A. increased to 99.97%.
In 2002 the company acquired Compañía Minera Disputada
de Las Condes, adding the El Soldado, Chagres Smelter
and Los Bronces divisions to its operations.
In 2004 the company began implementing major projects,
including the Los Bronces Development, the Chagres Smelter
Optimization and the El Soldado Pit Extension.
In 2007, production began on the Los
Bronces Development Project.
