Biodiversity

Like all Anglo American Group operations worldwide, we at Anglo American Chile take charge of the direct and indirect impacts that our operations may have on the ecosystems in which they intervene.

We have adopted a series of measures to protect threatened species inside or close to our zones of operation.

Through our biological diversity strategy we pledge to:

• Use natural resources efficiently (water, energy and land).

• Protect and recover ecosystems affected by our intervention.

• Design proactive action plans in this area.
In our approach to biodiversity conservation we also follow and promote the following guidelines:
• Integrate our concerns into our business plans.

• Develop business opportunities linked to biodiversity protection.

• Allocate resources and responsibilities for biodiversity management.

• Implement training programs, collect information and provide education on
issues of biodiversity for company managers, employees, local communities and the
  Government.

• Involve our stakeholders in developing, implementing, monitoring and reviewing
  our management plans.

• Develop plans of action for promoting biodiversity conservation, which
include inventories, resources and systems, risk analysis and associated impacts,
action programs for monitoring and correcting, and biodiversity criteria related to
abandonment, closure, and rehabilitation of operations.
