Bellotos del Norte Program
El Soldado Division

El Soldado Division is currently implementing the program “Bellotos del Norte for Future Generations,” aimed at investigating and conserving the belloto del norte, a threatened native plant species found on the division’s own lands and the surrounding areas.

The program involves protecting and preserving around 10,000 existing trees on its own property through different conservation actions that include the following:

Sustainable Use Plan for the division’s own lands, developed in partnership
with the Universidad Mayor.

Research into the plant reproduction of the belloto, in partnership with the
Universidad de Playa Ancha.
Design of protocols for the movement, propagation and micro-propagation
of the species through transplanted trees, in partnership with the Universidad
Católica de Chile.
Creation of nurseries for large scale reproduction of bellotos, with the aim
of increasing the population of this native species five-fold by the end of the
project.
Educational talks and community outreach, to inform local people about the
program’s objectives.
