Golden rules

All actions in every Anglo American Group operation must be undertaken in strict accordance with the Golden Rules, a set of basic safety standards oriented towards establishing clear, exacting and quantifiable standards for addressing potential risks. These have played an important role in the company and continue to be used to reinforce the new safety systems established under the Anglo Safety Way program..

These rules are:

• Ensure safe work methods are in place and adequate health and safety information
is available (procedures, standards and others).

• Identify danger and assess risks before beginning any task or activity.

• Reassess the dangers and risks identified each time processes, staff or circumstances
change and update control measures accordingly.

• Ensure that staff is trained, qualified and suitable for the job.

• Use the personal protective equipment (PPE) specified.

• Before beginning work, remember that there are emergency response plans based
  on potential risk scenarios.

• Cease any unsafe work until it is safe to proceed.
