The
health of our workers is safeguarded by a series of
preventive measures that allow us to avoid harm to workers
and detect symptoms early before they become occupational
illnesses. All actions in this area are based on the
company’s Safety, occupational health and environmental management.
Safeguarding occupational health begins when workers
join Anglo American Chile, with pre-employment exams.
Workers who will be exposed to risks must also undergo
regular health checkups, the scope of which depends
on the type of risks to which the worker is exposed.
Technical inspections are performed in each work unit
to identify places and personnel with the highest risk
exposure. Similar risk types are grouped together and
analyzed, then specific preventive measures are developed
and then implemented. This process is part of our Occupational
Health Program, which is overseen by the company’s health
department, with the support of occupational health
insurer Mutual de Seguridad.
Anglo American Chile is constantly focused on detecting
emerging risks before they become health problems. Such
is the case with ultraviolet radiation, for example,
which affects workers in our Mantos Blancos and Mantoverde
divisions. Workers in these two areas now wear suitable
clothing and sunblock, and a shift arrangement for open
air environments has been introduced to avoid exposing
workers to the sun for too long at high radiation periods.
